People want to be known for performing well, and offering awards for personal corporate achievements is a perfect way to reach out to individuals in a positive manner. By doing so, the management seems more in touch with those subordinates and gives the honest impression that the work completed by their employees is genuinely appreciated and valued. Awards can even serve as both positive affirmations of a job well done, in addition to motivators for others within an organization. The sometimes small act of recognition by handing out awards can be what converts an employee to become a more productive asset for the company, striving to achieve that same level of recognition of others.

Awards can come in many forms, from crystal trophies and bronze medals, to wooden plaques. There are some that are tailored for specific uses such as star awards to recognize star performers in an organization or those made of green marble that are suited for recipients in the financial division of a company. There are even awards made of eco-friendly materials such as bamboo or recycled newsprint for those organizations dedicated to helping the environment. The range of items available allows any company to be able to use awards no matter what their budget or their specific recognition needs.

Offering cash contests to sales staff in the company is often believed to be a way to increase sales, but studies continue to prove that it is more physical items, like awards, that have a greater impact on recipients. With awards, as opposed to monetary rewards, those recognized have a tangible reminder of that recognition and the hard work they completed to receive it. It also allows them to have a public display of their service to the company, even providing validity to customers or other business partners of one's expertise in their field.

Referencing public display again, many companies choose to give awards publicly, at least within their own organization, during large company meetings with all employees. In this way, the importance of the awards are heightened when being presented in such an official manner, and it gives employees a better sense of what levels of achievement merit such recognition. Many companies also choose to give these items of recognition in a consistent manner, with monthly ceremonies for example for employee of the month or highest gross margins in sales. This gives the salespeople measurable goals and key targets to work toward. Sometimes though recognition can be awarded by complete surprise. This can help keep the level of excitement up around the office and make sure employees are working hard throughout the entire year, and not just right before they know it is time for awards to be given.

Whatever awards you choose and however you choose to give them your recipients are sure to be extremely appreciative. Just make sure your expectations for your employees are always known and further, that all employees have an equal chance to receive such accolades, to avoid any discontent in the workplace.
